Hello everyone,
I hope and pray that everyone had enjoyed their summer and that you
found it quite restful! I wanted to let you know that our Fall Action
Workshop will take place on Saturday, September 16 from 10am-2pm at St. Ignatius Parish Hall (255 Stafford Street).
In the morning, we will have our workshop take place. Lunch will be
provided. The afternoon consists of a live National webinar with Elvin
Hernández, human rights investigator for ERIC - Radio Progresso and
Juana Zuniga, defender of the Guapinol and member
of the Committee for the Defence of the Common and Public Goods of
Tocoa, Colón. This will be an interesting opportunity to hear directly
from the partners regarding this year's campaign.
We will be continuing the Stand for the Land Campaign, with a focus on
the current mining situation in the Honduras. Around the world, people
who defend the environment, water and land are often threatened,
criminalized, imprisoned or even killed. The communities
of Guapinol and the San Pedro sector in northern Honduras are well
aware of this. Their lives have been turned upside down ever since an
iron mine opened in Carlos Escaleras National Park. We need your help
today to act in solidarity with our brothers and
sisters in Guapinol!
Feel free to invite other parishioners or members of your community to come and join! We look forward to having you!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
